Statement of Philosophy

It is a privilege and an honor to participate in extracurricular activities at St. Joseph School.  Participation in these activities adds to each student’s education by promoting citizenship, Christian morals, and identity as an athlete of St. Joseph Catholic School.  Students who participate in these activities should conduct themselves appropriately at all times both on school grounds and away from school and are expected to maintain appropriate grades at all times.  The goal of our extracurricular program is to work together for the good of all.  Students in 6th, 7th and 8th are given the opportunity to compete in volleyball and basketball against other private schools in the area.  Students are able to participate in football, wrestling, track, and cross country through Central Community Schools.

Athletic Goals and Objectives

1. To provide students with an enjoyable and satisfying experience.

2. To provide the teaching of fundamentals appropriate to the various age groups.

3. To develop sportsmanship and an appreciation for good sportsmanship.

4. To develop a sense of self-worth, character, and purpose in each athlete.

Code of Conduct

Inappropriate verbal or physical conduct of spectators directed at participants, officials, or sponsors of activities or at other spectators will not be tolerated.  Verbal or physical conduct of spectators that interferes with the performance of students, officials, or sponsors of activities will not be tolerated.  The use of vulgar, obscene, or demeaning expression directed at students, officials, or sponsors participating in an extracurricular activity or at other spectators will not be tolerated.

The Parent’s Responsibility

Both parenting and coaching are extremely difficult vocations.  Communication is the key to success!  By establishing an understanding of each position, we are better to accept the actions of the other and provide greater benefits to students.  As parents, when your student(s) become involved in our program, you have a right to understand the expectations of those programs.  All concerns should be expressed directly to the Athletic Director at school (659-3812).  As your student(s) become involved in the programs at St. Joseph School, they will experience some of the most rewarding moments of their lives.  It is important to understand that there may also be times of disappointment.  It is important to communicate rewarding experiences as well as times of disappointment with your child.

Students who are absent from school due to illness, will not be allowed to attend or participate in any evening activities sponsored by St. Joseph Catholic School.  The student must return to school by 11:30 in order to participate in that evenings events.

All students participating in sports will need to fill out the Concussion management protocol waiver.  This document must be signed by both the student and their parent before they can begin practice.
