FAQs on St. Joseph Extended Day Preschool

Q: How would you describe the extended day preschool schedule?

The St. Joseph extended day preschool will meet four days a week (M, T, Th, F) from 8:00am -3:00pm. The morning hours (8:00-11:00) will be part of the (free) Statewide Voluntary Preschool Program and the extended hours (11:00-3:00) will be a continuation of the learning and play that took place in the morning. Lunch and rest time will be part of the extended day schedule, as well as faith activities. For the extended part of the day, tuition will be charged.

What will be the cost of tuition?

The cost of tuition will be $2,500 and there are many ways to make payments based on what works best for your family. Most of the school parents opt for a 10-month payment plan which means that tuition would be $250/month.

Will financial assistance be available to those families who request it and demonstrate financial need?

Yes, financial assistance is available. Just reach out to the Business Manager, Jennie Bauer, (563-659-3514) or Sharon Roling (563-659-3812) for additional information.

When will registration open and is there an order for the 20 available spots?

Registration will follow this order.

Monday, February 26: Current school families can register.
Tuesday, February 27: St. Joseph parishioners can register.
Wednesday, February 28: Residents living in Central DeWitt CSD can register.

Where will I find the link to enroll?

The link can be found on the school’s FaceBook page or website on the day you register.

What time will the enrollment form open?

In order to accommodate family schedules, the enrollment form will be available each day from 8:00am-8:00pm. It does not matter what time you register during that time period. It is important to register on the day that applies to your family.

If there are more than 20 families who register, how are the spots determined?

We anticipate that there will be more than 20 families who register. The school has a randomization process (lottery system) that will be used in this situation.

Yes, the school will be offering an extended day. Here are the details.

The preschool will be in the statewide voluntary preschool program from 8:00-11:00, four days each school week. There is no preschool on Wednesdays.
The extended day will be from 11:00-3:00, four days each school week. There is no extended day on Wednesdays.
Preschool students must attend the entire extended day, which would be from 8:00-3:00.

Q: I heard that there are limited spots available in the extended day program. Is this true?

Yes, we follow the state’s guidelines and only 20 spots are available for the extended day preschool. Therefore, we strongly encourage you to sign up through Central DeWitt for an alternative preschool location. (website will be provided 2/1/24 at 12:00pm)

Q: Speaking of enrollment, when can I sign up my child for St. Joseph preschool?

Dates have not been determined, but you will have at least a week’s notice.

Q: Will current school families be able to enroll first?

Yes, current families will have the opportunity to enroll first.

Q: Will tuition be charged for the extended day of the program? If so, how much?

Yes, tuition will be charged for the hours of 11:00-3:00. We hope to determine the tuition cost before the St. Joseph School Extended Day Preschool registration process starts.
