Our History

St. Joseph Catholic School has been a learning institution in this community for over 150 years.  The original school was established in 1865.  In the early years, St. Joseph Catholic School had to close and reopen several times due to the poor facilities and lack of staff.  By January 10, 1890, with 83 students and competently staffed by the Sisters of Mercy, the doors of St. Joseph Catholic School were finally opened permanently.  Even after a devastating fire in 1920 destroyed the school, the St. Joseph School families persevered and found alternative locations so their children's education could continue.  With a fund drive in 1954, a new school was built in its present location behind St. Joseph Catholic Church on the corner of 6th Avenue.  Another fund drive was initiated in 2001 which resulted in renovations that improved the school and church facilities.

St. Joseph Catholic School today houses preschool through 8th grade.  It is an accredited school staffed by 14 certified teachers and two educational aides with a combined experience of more than 250 years.
